Macquarie Geotech

MacGeo operates 4 offices in NSW,employing 60+ people. MacGeo specialises in geomechanical testing. Also aggregate, coal, concrete, rock & soil testing.

Macquarie Geotechnical operates four offices in the Central West of New South Wales and employs over 40 Geotechnical staff comprising Geotechnical Engineers, Engineering Geologists, Chemists, Environmental Scientists, Coal Technicians, Concrete Technicians and Geotechnical Technicians. We are the largest Geotechnical Company located west of Sydney and regularly work on projects throughout Western NSW, Blue Mountains and Sydney.

In 2011 we had Geotechnical staff working on projects in the Pilbara (Western Australia) and McArthur River Mine (Northern Territory) as well as numerous mining and infrastructure projects throughout New South Wales. 2012 looks to be another busy year with continuation of work in Western Australia and projects at Roxby Downs (South Australia), The Granites (Tanami Desert) and Lihir (Papa New Guinea) commencing.

Macquarie Geotechnical is an accredited subcontractor under the RTA contractors register and is also accredited under the RTA Professional Services contract. Our quality system is accredited independently with NATA and we are also accredited under 17025 and ISO 9002.
Our Geotechnical section is able to undertake site investigation field work comprising drilling and engineering testpits and we are also able to undertake in-situ testing comprising Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP), Standard Penetrometer Testing (SPT), Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT) and other methods. Geotechnical software programs such as gINT, Circly ©, Slide, Phase 2 (Finite Element Modeling), and DIPS are then used to provide geotechnical models. In addition we operate two augering drill rigs capable of site investigations to depths of up to 15m and one truck mounted geotechnical rig (E50) capable of augering to 25m and coring to 120m.

The NATA laboratories are able to undertake comprehensive testing on pavement material, soil, concrete, aggregate, coal, asphalt and rock. We also undertake numerous in-house test methods including aggressive soil testing.

Our CMT (Construction Materials Testing) laboratory undertakes fieldwork comprising earthworks supervision (Level 1), field density testing and compaction testing, bulk sampling from quarries and stockpiles, asphalt density testing and coring. Our concrete testing capabilities include slump testing, air content compressive strength testing and assisting with batch trials. We undertake QA testing on numerous local independent concrete supplies and also undertake testing for Hanson and Boral across Western NSW. Rock testing capabilities include Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS), Dry Density, Specific Gravity, Point Load and Indirect Tensile Strength (Brazilian test).

Located at Lithgow and Gulgong, our Coal laboratories have developed strong field sampling techniques and work in conjunction with local Collieries to provide rapid laboratory turn around times. This allows for proactive processing of coal based on laboratory results. Our primary coal testing regime includes Calorific Value, Sulphur and Iron Content, Moisture Content, Sizing, and Washability. Our coal exploration services include supervision of LOX drilling by one of our Geologists, collection and return to the laboratory of exploration samples. Our coal exploration laboratory testing includes drop shatter, washability and float/sink testing.
